Important people you'll meet along the way

Notary - or 'Notario'

The 'Notario' is an important person in the buying process, and in Spanish life. Their job is to witness the signing of official documents such as the completion contract for a property sale. While they're qualified lawyers, they don't represent the interests of you or the seller, which is why it's important to get your own independent legal advisor.

The notary is not responsible for checking the accuracy of statements; your solicitor should do this.

Gestor

Many Spaniards use the services of a 'Gestor' to deal with the paperwork and bureaucracy involved with paying taxes, transferring utility bills and registering title deeds. As a local resident they are experienced at filling in the necessary paperwork and obtaining relevant documents quickly.
